Dentist warns against dangers of DIY dentures sold online

A dentist has warned the public about do-it-yourself moldable false teeth or dentures sold online at a cheaper price.

According to Bernadette Reyes' report on "24 Oras," Tuesday, some people who could not afford dental services have resorted to buying these products, which can be available for as cheap as P50.

One of them is Shiela Ancero, who plans to purchase one for herself.

"Tingin ko OK naman po sa video. Puwede pong subukan ko na lang po para naman po magkaroon po ako ng magandang ngipin po," she said.

However, Dr. Malou Mendoza, a dentist, said that using DIY dentures is dangerous.

"'Di nila na-che-check kung equal ba 'yung bite and everything, apektado 'yung panga, so maaapektuhan 'yung tenga mo, 'yung sasakit ulo mo, muscles, lahat, buong katawan affected," she said.

"May mga chemical 'yan na puwedeng kainin 'yung bone, dangerous kasi sina-swallow mo 'yan so kung may poison or anything dangerous," she added.

Mendoza reminded everyone that there are plenty of options available for those who do not have a lot of budget for dentures.

"Kung pipili ka maraming material, merong affordable talaga just talk to your dentist," she said.
