8-year-old girl born with no anal opening gets surgery thanks to GMA Kapuso Foundation

An eight-year-old girl from Sulu who was born with no anal opening underwent surgery thanks to the help of the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to "24 Oras," Wednesday, Sharifa was among the residents who received a free operation through the Give-a-Gift Surgical Outreach Program.

In 2019, Sharifa underwent an operation through a medical mission in Manila. However, her anus once again closed when she returned home.

"Na-diagnose siya na meron s'yang trisomy 21 o Down Syndrome. Merong iba 'yung isa o dalawa na merong congenital anomaly. Sa kanya 'yung walang butas ang pwet o imperforate anus," Dr. Beda Espineda said.

"Wala pong pediatric surgeon sa Sulu, kaya meron po kaming mga kasama na pediatric surgeon na nagpa-practice sa Zamboanga City Medical Center. After 2 weeks, doon na siya mag-follow up," he added.

Aside from Sharifa, the GMA Kapuso Foundation also helped a fisherman named Anggi Sampang.

Anggi's daily routine is affected by the growing lump on his finger, which leaves him pained every time it is hit by the cord of his fishing net.

"Tinanggal na po natin 'yung pinakabukol, pero taking good care na masave 'yung tendon," Dr. Ramon Inso said on Anggi's finger.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation also gave medicines and vitamins to Camp Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital and the Sulu Provincial Hospital.

For those who are interested to help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
