When is the safest time to get exposed to the sun? Dr. Vicki Belo answers
It's been said time and again that being exposed to the sun has harmful effects on the skin, and Dr. Vicki Belo knows it best.
On Instagram, the celebrity doctor shared an informative reel where she pretended to talk to a Barbie doll that had developed melasma from sun exposure.
"Oh no, what happened to your face? Did you go to the beach? Did you use sunscreen like I told you to? SPF 50?" Belo said.
"What time did you go to the beach? 11 a.m.? That's the midday sun. I told you to only go to the beach before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m.," she added.
According to Vicki, the midday sun is the most dangerous to the skin because of its harmful ultraviolet rays, so it's safest to get out early in the morning until 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. onwards.
"The sun is like a magnet that attracts all the pigment cells to the surface of the skin," she said.
She ended her video by reminding everyone of the three golden rules.
"The next time you go out, use sunscreen, wear shades to avoid wrinkles around your eyes, and wear a wide-brim hat," she said.
In a previous GMA News Online exclusive, Belo also gave some advice to avoid hyperpigmentation, which refers to the dark spots in the body caused by overexposure to the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays.
