Aubrey Miles, Troy Montero's daughter Rocket gets stem cell therapy for autism
Aubrey Miles and Troy Montero's daughter, Rocket, has undergone stem cell therapy for autism spectrum disorder.
The couple shared the procedure through a YouTube vlog on Sunday, educating their followers about stem cell as possible treatment for autism.
Aubrey said that just like many others, they thought stem cell therapy is only for anti-aging or joint issues. They eventually learned, however, that it's a treatment considered for younger children.
"They said that Rocket was a perfect candidate for stem cell therapy. She's at the right age, because basically they want to inject stem cell and it's going to be more effective for someone seven years and below," Troy said.
"So Rocket's four-years-old and her brain is still developing so that way the stem cell will enter the brain and be able to make those connections that are lacking in her brain right now," he added.
According to Troy, certain parts of Rocket's brain are not "talking" to the rest of the organ, such as the parts that control her behavior, speech, and learning.
The couple took Rocket to EW Villa Medica in Pasay City for the procedure.
The little girl was first given anesthesia, and then she was hooked into an IV. She was sedated before the stem cell was injected into her body.
The procedure took 30-45 minutes. After that, she was taken inside a hyperbaric chamber for an hour.
According to Mayo Clinic, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a treatment that involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized environment. The oxygen helps the release of growth factors and stem cells for healing.
Aubrey said this is Rocket's third hyperbaric session, and they are already seeing improvement. But they will continue with the rest of her therapy to cover all bases.
"Hindi naman kami mag-rely lang sa stem cell, kailangan lahat pa rin," she said.
Aubrey and Troy revealed that Rocket was diagnosed with ASD in April last year. The couple has been sharing updates on their daughter's progress on social media.
Last year, Rocket said her first full sentence when she celebrated her fourth birthday. The little girl said, "Happy birthday to you."
Aubrey previously said that Rocket taught them a "different kind of love" after her autism diagnosis.
Troy and Aubrey got married in June last year after 18 years of being together. Aside from Rocket, they have a son named Hunter.
Aubrey also has an older son named John Maurie, with ex-boyfriend JP Obligacion.
