GMA Kapuso Foundation collects over 4k blood bags in donation drive
Blood donation drives are among the community efforts that were affected by the strict quarantine restrictions during the height of the pandemic.
Because of this, donor turnout has decreased, staff and resources have been reduced, as the demand for blood has increased.
To bring back the accessibility of blood donation drives to those who want to help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Junior Chamber International and the Philippine National Red Cross to conduct a nationwide blood donation drive.
Through the initiative, about 4,140 blood bags were collected and will be distributed to different Red Cross Blood Service Facilities.
“Four years ang nakalipas, sinimulan 'tong project 2018. Tapos after ng pandemic, ‘di po tayo makakuha ng dugo kaya sobrang masaya po tayo na nakapagsimula ulit tayo,” said project chairman Joshua Aragon.
JCI Manila president Eric Ke added, “Nalaman namin during our research na kulang na kulang talaga ang dugo natin here in the Philippines so right now awareness na okay lang naman eh na di naman ikakasama ng katawan.”
The Armed Forces of the Philippines also took part in the initiative.
“Ito ay isang paraan para mapakita natin sa tao ang pagbibigay ng proteksyon at ito ay sa pamamagitan ng pagliligtas ng buhay lalo na yung mga nangangailangan ng dugo,” Col. Medel Aguilar said.
For those who are interested to help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
