60 Pinoys receive free dental services thanks to the GMA Kapuso Foundation
Sixty Filipinos received free dental services under the GMA Kapuso Foundation's Ngiting Kapuso project.
According to a report on "24 Oras," Wednesday, the project is in partnership with the Centro Escolar University (CEU) School of Dentistry.
Beneficiaries underwent free tooth extraction and dental cleaning. Among them is Cherovie Otoc, who noticed that her teeth began deterioriating while she was breastfeeding her child.
"Pipiliin mo kung saan ka pa may ngipin, banda doon ka ngunguya," she said, as she has lot plenty of her teeth. "Ang ginagawa ko na lang po may nakaantabay na tubig, para once na masiksikan pag kumakain magmumumog ka din."
Dr. Joann Fontanilla Joven, President, Philippine Prosthodontic Society, said pregnant women and breastfeeding moms are prone to developing cavities.
"Ang unang-una pong hinihingi ng bata ay 'yung calcium. Normally kapag mababa ang calcium level, 'yung mga ngipin po isa isa ng mawawala, nasisira," she said.
"Lagi ko pong sinasabi sa pregnant women, double dose of calcium."
Joven also said it is important to get dental treatment as soon as possible in case of cavities or tooth decay.
"Puwedeng 'yung mga impeksyon ay mag-travel sa iba-ibang portals dun sa loob ng bibig, hanggang sa maapektuhan 'yung buong katawan mo," she said.
