Matt Lozano opens up on career struggles due to weight gain

Matt Lozano has landed the biggest break of his showbiz career after playing Big Bert in "Voltes V: Legacy."

His body size fit the role to a tee, but Matt's weight was not always a boon for him in the industry.

In the latest episode of "Share Ko Lang," the Sparkle actor opened up on the struggles he faced due to his weight.

"Kaya rin ako nawalan ng mga shows before, ng mga roles kasi nga napunta ako sa heavier side," Matt said. "E that time parang ang usually na hinahanap ng mga caster, ng mga directors, kailangan physically fit ka talaga para mag-fit ka doon sa role."

"Dumating ako sa point na nagka-crash diet ako para lang mapaghandaan itong isang project na ito tapos 'yun, bigla naman akong pumayat naman ako," he added.

Matt said his body is like a balloon when it comes to gaining weight and he is not comfortable showing himself to everybody.

"Nahihiya ako, kumbaga meron akong body-shaming sa sarili ko but ngayon in-embrace ko lang kung ano 'yung katawan ko ngayon kasi as of now this is what's giving me a work," he said.

Matt previously spoke about how "Voltes V: Legacy" helped him to accept his body and overcome the depression he has gone through due to his struggles.

"Dati sobra akong nade-depress pagka tinatanong ako about my weight pero ngayon okay-okay lang sa akin kasi kumbaga I can always eat healthy food naman and maintain my weight na ganito," he said.

Big Bert, Matt's role in "Voltes V: Legacy," the middle Armstrong brother along with Steve (Miguel Tanfelix) and Little Jon (Raphael Landicho). He is the pilot of the Volt Panzer, which becomes the torso of the Voltes V robot.

"Voltes V: Legacy" airs weekdays on GMA Telebabad at 8 p.m. after "24 Oras." It is also livestreamed on YouTube and GMANetwork.com/KapusoStream.
