Lani Misalucha turns emotional as she recounts effects of hearing loss: 'Hindi ko alam na sintunado pala ako'

Lani Misalucha was emotional as she recounted the effects of hearing loss on her singing career.

On Monday's episode of "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," Lani detailed the aftermath of her suffering from bacterial meningitis.

"Ang bacterial meningitis ay hindi biro, maaring mag-cost ito ng iyong buhay kapag 'di naagapan," the Asia's Nightingale said.

Lani said when she and her husband Noli Misalucha were admitted to the hospital, they were already experiencing some of the side effects of the disease, including hearing loss and blurry vision.

"So, you can imagine for a singer like me, mawawalan ng pandinig eh parang napakahirap nu'n, 'di ba," she said.

Lani went on to recall how she and Noli got themselves treated with medications to kill the bacteria within their body.

"Pinatay nila 'yung bacteria through medicine and all that, and then binigyan kami ng steriods para bumaba yung swelling sa brain namin," she said.

According to Lani, going through medications while suffering from the damages of bacterial mengingitis was one of the biggest health scares of her life.

It was certainly a threat to her singing career.

"Napakaterible ng pakiramdam na, paano ako kakanta na 'yung sarili kong boses hindi ko na naririnig?" she said.

Lani recalled one instance where she sang during the Christmas special of The Clash 2020.

"Noong kumanta na nga ako doon sa Chrismas concert ng The Clash, hindi ko alam na sintunado pala ako, na hindi ko na-hit 'yung notes ko," she said.

"Lahat ng naririnig ko sintunado, and I even told myself after singing na kung ganito rin lang, bakit pa ako kakanta? Sinong audience ang gustong makarinig ng sintunado?" she added.

Lani said that there were moments when she questioned God about the challenges she had to face.

"Syempre, hindi mo maiiwasan in the beginning na, bakit naman ganun, singer ako eh?" she said.

"Ito lang 'yung binigay sa 'kin ng Panginoong Diyos na gift, mawawala pa," she added.

Lani said she couldn't say she was feeling better as of the interview, but she has "gotten used to the situation."

"It doesn't really matter if my hearing is going to come back. It doesn't matter anymore because this was given to me, makaka-complain pa ba ako?" she said.

"There are just a lot of other amazing and beautiful things happening in our life, bakit pa ako mag-complain?" she added.

In 2020, Lani revealed hearing loss in one ear as a result of bacterial meningitis. She has publicly shared her struggles with singing following the unfortunate incident. — Hermes Joy Tunac/LA, GMA Integrated News
