2 women suffering from goiter receive help from GMA Kapuso Foundation

Two women who have been suffering from goiter received help from the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to a "24 Oras" report Monday, among the beneficiaries was Myline Negrido from Antipolo, Rizal. The lump on her neck continued to grow in nine years.

"Madalas po ako hingalin eh. Mainit sa pakiramdam, parang palaging tuyo lalamunan ko," she said.

Because of her condition, Myline said she finds it hard to find a job. As such, she doesn't have money to have herself treated.

Meanwhile, Elma Mateo from Cavite is in a similar situation.

"Nahihirapan ako lumunok tapos nung tumagal nang tumagal, lumalaki siya. Parang nakaharang siya sa pag-hinga ko ta's sumasakit na 'yung dibdib ko," Mateo said.

ENT Specialist Dr. Gil Vicente said possible causes of goiter include lack in iodine and stress. Treatment for goiter, meanwhile, is through ablation of the thyroid using radio frequency.

"Meron tayong wand na pinapasok do'n tapos tinutunaw, kino-convert sa plasma ang layer ng kanyang thyroid tissues," he said.

Myline and Ema have now undergone their first operation, but they still need help for their second session.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
