Hailey Bieber reveals having PTSD over her health issues last year
Hailey Bieber revealed that she suffered from anxiety and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) after her health scare in March 2022.
In "The Run-Through with Vogue" podcast, Hailey admitted that it was difficult to talk about her experience in the months that followed.
Hailey, 26, suffered stroke-like symptoms while having breakfast with her husband, singer Justin Bieber, last year.
"It was so terrifying, so jarring, so discombobulating in every single way that you could imagine," she said.
The doctor concluded that her stroke-like symptoms was a transient ischemic attack (TIA), which was caused by a blood clot in her brain and led to a lack of oxygen. Fortunately, that healed on its own.
However, during her stay in the hospital, she was also diagnosed with a patent foramen ovale (PFO), which is a small opening in the heart that usually closes after birth. To resolve that, she had to go undergo heart surgery.
While she relieved that the doctors found out what was wrong and she could live her life, Hailey shared that it took her some time to deal with what happened.
Coming back to Palm Springs, where the incident occurred, was trying for Hailey.
"Even the first couple of times coming back here after was a little bit of a strange, triggering kind of feeling for me because you just remember exactly how everything happened in that moment," she said.
To help other people who may experience what she did, Hailey shared the warning signs and symptoms of a stroke, using the acronym "FAST."
F - Face Dropping: Does one side of the face droop, or is it numb? Ask the person to smile. Is the person's smile uneven?
A - Arm Weakness: Is one arm weak or numb? Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
S - Speech Difficulty: Is the person's speech slurred? Does the person have a hard time saying his or her words?
T - Time to call the emergency number.
Hailey also encouraged her fans to get regular checkups with their doctors.
