Meet the oldest hikers of Mt. Apo: 82-year-old Lola Iluminada and 83-year-old Lolo Casio

As if hiking isn't a challenging physical activity enough, in come 82-year-old lawyer, Lola Iluminada, and 83-year-old farmer Lolo Casio successfully hiking, oh just the tallest mountain in the Philippines, Mount Apo.

According to a recent "Dapat Alam Mo!" episode, Lola Iluminada accomplished the feat on her very birthday, making it an even sweeter accomplishment.

With her kids, in-laws, and two guides, Lola Iluminada took on the steep and rocky Digos Trail for three days, braving terrible weather before finally summiting. The Digos LGU gave her the honorary title "Oldest Female Climber" of Mount Apo.

Hiking isn't new for Lola Iluminada, who has previously hiked Mt. Ulap and Mt. Pulag.

For the Mt. Apo climb, she underwent medical and physical check-ups to ensure she is fit.

Meanwhile, the 83-year-old farmer Lolo Casio said he wanted to summit Mt. Apo "dahil wala pa naman akong nararamdaman sa katawan. Gusto ko pong maglakad-lakad."

Unlike Lola Iluminada, who did the Digos Trail, Lolo Casio took the Sta. Cruz Trail of Mt. Apo.

Like Lola Iluminada, Lolo Casio was also accompanied by guides.

He trained for four months and ensured he had proper gears to survive the 14.3 Kilometers of the Sta. Cruz Trail, said to be the hardest Mt. Apo trail.

For his feat, the Sta. Cruz LGU called him the "Oldest Climber" of Mt. Apo.

Located in Davao del Sur, Mt. Apo is the tallest mountain in the Philippines standing at 2,954 meters above sea level. — LA, GMA Integrated News
