Gabbi Garcia opens up about her learnings on mental health, women’s struggles from ‘Love You Stranger’

It’s the finale week of the romance-mystery mini-series “Love You Stranger,” and a lot of secrets are set to be unraveled. But apart from learning about the mysterious happenings that have been plaguing their characters, the cast learned a lot from the series too.

Gabbi Garcia plays LJ, a film production designer, who grew up caring for her mom Lorraine, played by Andrea del Rosario.

Throughout the series, the selfless LJ does her best to understand her mother’s fear of shadows, people, and the outside world, which came after a mysterious event involving the shadow figure called Lilom.

In a press conference, Gabbi told GMA News Online that some of her key takeaways from the series would be her learnings on mental health and the struggles of women.

Because of the heavy nature of the series—which tackles abuse and violence—Gabbi said that the “LYS” team consulted with a doctor regarding “lahat ng bawat kilos namin sa script.”

“So it's really an eye-opener not just for the audience, but for us as well. Especially me kasi I'm the closest one to Lorraine's character,” the Kapuso Millennial It Girl said.

“Syempre, you have to take care of your relationships with other people, especially the people you value the most. Especially in these times diba, ang hirap ng panahon ngayon. There's the pandemic, there's inflation, there's a lot of things that are going on.”

With these lessons she’s gained, Gabbi definitely applies LJ’s compassion to her relationships in real life as well.

“Hindi natin alam our small actions could really mean a lot to people who are going through something. Just a simple ‘kumusta?’ or just talking to them or, you know,  just being present can go a long, long, long way,” she said.
