Angie Mead King reveals her coming out in 2016 was earlier than planned

Angie Mead King certainly made headlines when she came out in 2016. She was married to model Joey Mead after all, and she was a successful race car diver.

In an episode of the Howie Severino podcast however, the popular transgender admitted her coming out took place earlier than planned.

"When my father passed  away, I started taking hormones na, and the whole plan was for me to wait for, I guess, more effects of the hormones before it's noticeable na. That's when I was gonna come out," Angie said.

The untimely manner of her coming out, however, turned out to be a good thing for Angie. "It made it easier for me," she said.

"I literally didn't have to explain it anymore to people. Like basically, I came out online, the news picked it up, so I idn't have to tell people one by one na 'I'm like this ganyan, ganyan.' it was actually sort of a blessing in that sense."   

In July 2016, social media was set ablaze when Ian King announced on Instagram he was now Angelina Mead King. Not only that: Joey Mead continued to be at her side, leading the cheers for her transition.

In the interview with Howie, Angie explained she had been taking hormones for just one year but that they — she and Joey — had already been processing her transition together.

According to Angie, she came clean to Joey about liking women's underwear three months into dating. "I started there as an ice breaker. It was sort of like our fun and games," she said, adding how she would dress up whenever they would travel.

It was when Angie's dad got sick in Germany that really became a turning point for Angie. "On the 3rd day in Germany, I had to check into ICU, put him in induced coma, and sign for his life. So that caved in on me."

"I didn't want to have to suppress myself and live this double life na only when I'm traveling [would] I get the joy like this, so I basically made the decision," she said. 

It's been six years since and Angie and Joey continue to be married and happily in love. — LA, GMA News
