Why do people feel dizzy when they go on amusement park rides?
On Wednesday’s “24 Oras,” Kuya Kim said this was because of motion sickness, which is the result of the brain getting different signals from the body.
“’Pag ang ating motion-sensing body parts tulad ng mata, tenga, at muscles ay nag-send ng conflicting information sa ating utak, nalilito ang utak. Hindi nito sigurado kung tayo ba ay gumagalaw o hindi.”
Among the amusement rides that make people dizzy is the Ferris wheel, which is invented by George W.G. Ferris Jr.
The first Ferris wheel was showcased at World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago in the 1890s.
Meanwhile, an estimated 1,299 amusement ride-related accidents were recorded in the US and in Canada in 2019. This is almost 3.7 injuries per a million visitors. – Franchesca Viernes/RC, GMA News
