Maggie Wilson opens up about 'emotional distress' of the last three years: 'I was so broken'

Former beauty queen Maggie Wilson just bared her mental health struggles on social media, hoping to inspire those going through the same to seek help, if needed.

On Instagram on Monday, Maggie posted a lengthy reflection of what she has gone through in the last three years.

"In 2019, I went through one of the hardest challenges in my life emotionally. 2020 wasn't any better. I thought things were getting better then I got hit again with more emotional distress," the 33-year-old said.

According to Maggie, the lockdown affected her mental state tremendously, acknowledging that it wasn't just her who had a hard time coping with the effects of the pandemic.

"I sought help and did online therapy to help me deal with what I was going through. (There's absolutely no shame in seeking help.)," Maggie stressed.

She also added that she tried to keep it happy and light on social media until she "couldn't take it anymore in 2021."

"My weight was as up and down because of stress, my skin suffered, I couldn't sleep, I was so broken. I still am, but I'm putting back the pieces together slowly," Maggie continued.

Without giving specific details, the former beauty queen said that what had happened in her past had given her so much anxiety and stress, not to mention trust issues.

It didn't help that other people were also adding more grief and still trying to hurt her, she added.

"I'm tougher than ever but sometimes I do have my down days and that's ok. We just need to recognize our mistakes, our flaws, acknowledge them, get help when we need it because no one else can help you if you don't help yourself first," Maggie said.

She ended her reflections positively, reminding people that "we're all human and no one is perfect."

"So love yourself a little more, give yourself a pat on the back, and continue working on you. I am/We are a work in progress," she concluded. — LA, GMA News
