Rain Matienzo on owning up to one's mistakes: 'You should be teachable'

Kapuso celebrity Rain Matienzo is not one to feel afraid of committing a mistake. In fact, she takes pride in owning up to it.

During the last leg of Dapat Totoo: GMA News Lectures for #Eleksyon2022, Rain said "cancel culture" has made people so afraid of owning up to their missteps.

"I feel like as an individual, especially as young people, takot na takot tayong magkamali not just online but on different things in life," the TikTok star said.

But she emphasized that it's actually in committing mistakes that people can learn to be better.

"[That is the] time to learn as much as we can, to be [humbled] by our mistakes and there's nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with admitting na nagkamali ka at some point of your life," the actress added.

But it doesn't end there. "What would you do after that mistake that'll make you a better person?" Rain asked pointedly.

"[Your] next step has be right. It has to be true na you have learned from that previous experience. You should be teachable," Rain concluded.

"Dapat Totoo: GMA News Lectures for #Eleksyon2022" is a series of online lectures for college students from partner schools. It aims to build a network of citizen journalists to contribute to the awareness and skills of today's youth in navigating social media for election reporting and fact-checking.

Rain recently participated in a  lecture with students from AMA University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, University of the Philippines, Bulacan State University, and City of Malabon University held via Zoom on Wednesday, April 20, held via Zoom. — LA, GMA News
