Ronnie Liang launches advocacy to help children with cleft lip and palate undergo surgery

Ronnie Liang launched his new advocacy helping children with cleft lip and palate undergo surgery which he said is inspired by his song "Ngiti."

The singer, pilot, and army reservist said his advocacy called "Project Ngiti" is in cooperation with Rizal Medical Center (RMC).

According to a press release, this is a "long-term partnership and advocacy of Ronnie together with the doctors, nurses and staff of RMC to help adults and children to have a normal and happy lives."

To interested parties, they may comment on Ronnie Liang Project Ngiti Facebook page and the team will be contacting them.

In the press statement, Ronnie shared what inspired him to start this advocacy.
"Ever since ‘pag kumakanta ako ng Ngiti sa mga show ko at nakakakita ako ng mga taong may cleft, naiisip ko kawawa naman sila lalo na ‘yung mga bata. They might be bullied," Ronnie said.

The feeling was thinking the future of those kids. ‘Pag laki nila paano na?" he added."Gusto ko makatulong sa kanila na magkaroon sila ng normal at masayang buhay dahil alam ko ‘yung lumaking may cleft ay nakaranas sila ng discrimination at mga panunukso nung lumalaki sila."

Ronnie said he would be happy to become an instrument to start a change in their lives and to boost their self-esteem.

"Masarap sa pakiramdam na ‘yung natulungan mo ay nabago mo ang buhay at ang tulong na binigay mo ay pang habambuhay," he said.

Ronnie said he wants this project to be a "source of hope and inspiration lalo sa may mga ganung kapansanan."

"Gusto ko sila na magkaroon ng magandang ngiti para hindi na sila muling makaranas ng mga panunukso," he added.

According to the press statement, the operation will be scheduled weekly and that they would accommodate those who are near as they plan how to accommodate those who are leaving in far places.

"Ang goal namin ay maoperahan lahat ng taong may cleft lip and palate kahit nasaan man silang parte ng Pilipinas," he said.

"There’s no limit or deadline and, in God’s grace, we plan na gawing lifetime itong Project Ngiti," He added. —JAB, GMA News.
