Are people with diabetes more prone to mosquito bites?

Some people believe that those afflicted with diabetes are more susceptible to mosquito bites because their blood tastes sweet.

However, according to Dr. Oyie Balburias, some are more predisposed than others to mosquito bites because of their blood type or other genetic components and not because of diabetes.

“Nothing to do with the blood sugar,” he said in an episode of “Pinoy MD.”

Balburias said some studies showed that those who had Type O blood were more prone to mosquito bites than those who had Type A.

However, he said there were no clear indications yet as to what exact component or protein on the skin made a person an insect bite target. – RC, GMA News
