A woman who lost some teeth due to lack of money for dental care received free consultation and dentures from the Philippine Association of Private School Dentists (PAPSD) through the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

On Monday’s “24 Oras,” Geraldine Escoton lost her job during the pandemic and entered various trades while her 13-year-old son accepted work in construction sites.

As someone who worked for a catering service, Escoton said losing teeth made it harder to do her job.

“Sobrang hirap ng wala kang ngipin kasi unang-una, yung customer (ay) titingin sa mata mo. Syempre sa customer, kailangan nakangiti ka. Nawalan po talaga ako ng confidence sa sarili ko,” she said.

["It was very hard to not have teeth because first, the customers will look at your eyes. Of course, you have to smile at your customers. I really lost my self-confidence."]

Geraldine related that sometimes she just used salt to clean her teeth.

According to dentist Dr. James Olayvar, Geraldine lost her teeth due to poor hygiene.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation had Geraldine and her 13-year-old son checked by PAPSD President Dr. James Olayvar.

“Bibigyan ko sila ng libreng pustiso to enhance their self-confidence. Ganon din sa [anak niya]. Kumpleto naman ang ipin. Meron lang akong ginawang pasta,” the dentist said.

["I will give them free dentures to enhance their self-confidence. I'll do the same for her son even though his teeth are still complete. I just filled a tooth."]

Even with the new dentures, he reminded them and the viewers that “brushing is a must kahit naka mask.”

The GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, Pay Maya, Zalora, Mega Mart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
