Can our stomach burst when filled with too much food? Kuya Kim explains

This holiday season, feasting on food left and right have probably made some of us utter the words "I'm bursting" while patting our stomachs.

But did you know that it can actually happen literally?

Citing Dr. Rachel Vreeman, an assistant professor of pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine, Kuya Kim said although it's only a very small chance, one's tummy can burst from being too full.

The stomach can only hold 1.5 to three liters of food and when that reaches five liters, it can get torn or burst.

According to a nutritionist and dietician, taking our time with food can prevent this from happening. One way to do it is to let go of utensils and chew food for 20 seconds before taking another bite.

Meanwhile, one should rest for three hours before sleeping when they had too much to eat.

Stay healthy this holiday season, everyone!
