COVID-19 survivor’s thank-you letter warms hearts of health frontliners

A thank-you letter from a COVID-19 survivor warmed the hearts of the health frontliners who cared for the patient at a health facility.

According to Lei Alviz’s “24 Oras” report Tuesday, the patient thanked the medical workers and staff for their sacrifice and hard work amid the ongoing pandemic.

The patient also thanked the frontliners for the healthy food and keeping the room neat and tidy.

In the letter, the patient shared a Bible quote and hoped the workers would stay safe and healthy.

The COVID-19 survivor chose to stay anonymous but made known which room they used and left PHP150 for the housekeeping staff.

After finding the note and the tip, the hotel isolation facility staff in Pampanga couldn’t help but be touched.

“Yung sabihan kami na laging mag-ingat at pinagdarasal nila kami, sobrang nakakapawi ng pagod sa aming mga frontliner. Nakaka-motivate na pagbutihin pa po namin yung aming trabaho,” said nursing attendant Arlene David.

[For them to tell us to stay safe and they’re praying for us, it takes away the fatigue for us frontliners. It motivates us to do our jobs better.]

“Habang nababasa ko ’yung message, parang maiiyak ako. May mga tao rin palang nakaka-appreciate sa amin,” nursing attendant Ashley Otano added.

[I felt like crying while reading the message. There are also people who appreciate us.]

According to the healthcare workers, a simple “thank you” from their patients inspires and motivates them to keep moving forward.

One perfect example is head nurse Alfie Maniti, who chose to stay in the Philippines despite having an opportunity abroad. He also contracted the virus in the past.

“Iba ’yung nagsisilbing drive sa amin para ituloy kung ano man ’yung ginagawa namin, kahit sobrang pagod at worried kami sa health namin,” he said.

[Something drives us to continue what we’re doing, even if we’re very tired and worried for our health.]

Maniti also thanked the patient who made an effort to appreciate them. According to the head nurse, the gesture inspired other patients to do the same for the staff.

“Nagsunod-sunod yung letters na nare-receive namin sa kanila na sobrang positive at nakakataba ng puso,” he said.
