Kyline Alcantara on openly sharing her skin problems: 'I want to show the real me'

Kyline Alcantara has been very transparent about her acne problems in the past.

At her media launch as the new Ever Bilena ambassador, Kyline revealed that both her fans and her bashers have helped her decide to share her skin problems to the public.

“I see a lot of my fans tweeting me na parang ‘I feel so ugly. Ang pangit ng skin ko. Sana parehas kami ng skin ni Ate Ky, sobrang kinis. She’s my inspiration,’” began the “I Left My Heart In Sorsogon” actress.

“Siyempre may bashers, may live shows noon na nakikita ‘yung totoong skin ko [compared] sa pino-post ko.”

[I see a lot of my fans tweeting me like, ‘I feel so ugly. My skin is ugly. I wish my skin was as flawless as Ate Ky’s. She’s my inspiration. Of course, my bashers also, there were live shows back then and they would see my real skin compared to the ones I’d post about.]

It became a struggle at first, Kyline admitted, when people bashed her and pointed out that her skin wasn’t perfect.

“Naging defense mechanism ko ang napaka-kapal na makeup and ng filter (It became my defense mechanism to wear heavy makeup and apply filters),” she said.

But eventually, she told her team: “I want to show the real me. Bahala na kung ma-appreciate ng tao o kung mag-bash man ako nang mas malala. But at least hindi ako nagsisinungaling sa sarili ko and sa kanila."

[Eventually I told my team, ‘I want to show the real me.’ Whether or not the public appreciates it or I’ll just get bashed more, atleast I’m not lying to myself and to them]

In 2019, Kyline opened up about her acne and unveiled photos of herself to show how bad her breakouts were.

She said the breakouts led to insecurity and lack of confidence so paralyzing, she didn’t want to leave her house. Since then, she said she learned to take it easy on her skincare products after her breakout. — LA, GMA News
