Miss Universe Philippines 2021 delegate Gianne Asuncion tests positive for COVID-19

A delegate vying for the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 crown has tested positive for COVID-19.

Gianne Asuncion of Cagayan Province shared the news on Instagram last Monday, posting a video of herself hooked up to an IV and oxygen machine.

The aspiring beauty queen said she was suffering from pneumonia.

“I went silent for days. With the discovery of being COVID positive with pneumonia, I didn’t know how to react. I didn’t know what’s the next that could happen,” Gianne wrote in the caption.

“But you see, this fear of the unknown can’t stop me. It might be hard, but all I know is I will heal. I will get better. Tuloy ang laban,” she added.

Gianne also thanked her loved ones, Team Cagayan, and her Aces and Queens family.

Last week, the Miss Universe Philippines Organization (MUPO) announced Gianne Asuncion as one of the Top 50 delegates set to move on the next round.

She was also among 15 queens who topped the competition’s Video Introduction challenge

MUPO had yet to issue a statement regarding Asuncion’s health update as of Tuesday. —Margaret Claire Layug/JCB, GMA News
