DJ Nicole Hyala reveals daughter Princess was in a coma due to brain inflammation

DJ Nicole Hyala took to social media to share a recent battle their family had gone through when her daughter Princess was in a coma due to a brain inflammation.

On Instagram Monday, Nicole shared before and after photos of Princess where the latter’s seen in a hospital bed in April and “miraculously healed” in May.

“The Lord has shown His glory and might. He has given us a miracle,” she wrote.

“I took a break from social media because I needed to take care of my Princess, who got sick with meningoencephalitis, a rare disease that causes inflammation of the brain.”

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, meningoencephalitis is a condition where both the meninges and brain gets infected.

Its symptoms include fever, headache, seizures, trouble thinking, and unconsciousness.

In a YouTube video, Nicole and husband Renly Tiñala emotionally detailed their sufferings which turned out to be a “testimony of God’s love and miracle for us.”

According to the couple, apart from Princess having a fever on April 16, they also noticed that the child started sleeping all the time which was unusual.

On April 17, Princess was brought to the Biñan Doctor’s Hospital where she was confined. There, they found out that she was suffering from meningoencephalitis after a CT Scan.

With this, it was recommended that Princess should be transferred to an ICU. She was then brought to St. Luke’s Medical Center where she stayed for three weeks.

“Napakarami naming tanong ‘bakit si Princess?’ and it was really painful to see her there. Ang pinaka masaklap wala namang way para magbantay sa loob ng ICU,” Nicole said.

“The very first night that she was transferred, we left her. Naiwan namin siya,” she added.

Nicole said they were only able to talk to Princess through video call, which made it harder because the child also wasn’t waking up.

In May came, Princess celebrated her eighth birthday at the hospital, and days later, she was advised to undergo an MRI since she was always sleeping.

This update made Nicole and Renly entirely worried and given that they were not allowed at the facility, they had nothing else to do but pray and surrender.

According to Nicole, just minutes after Renly told the Lord to be in-charge, a their phone rang.

“Si Princess, hinawakan yung kamay ng doctor nang mahigpit tapos nakatingin si Princess, as if she was saying that she’s fine,” she said.

“Sabi namin ‘is it milagro?’ Do’n namin na-realize na talagang prayers are very powerful.”

Princess later became “stable” and was moved to a regular room where only one guardian could enter. However, she also ailed from involuntary actions caused by her condition.

Having to stay with her child for numerous sleepless nights, Nicole had a breakdown, where she had her moment to surrender, like Renly did.

“Sabi ko ‘Lord, grabe ka naman sa’kin. Hindi mo ‘ko pinapakinggan. Hindi ka nakikinig. Bakit ‘di mo ‘ko pinapakinggan? Anong ginawa kong mali?’” she said.

“‘Lord, just take the wheel. Ikaw na pong bahala. I surrender. Hindi ko na po ‘to kaya mag-isa. This is not mine anymore. This should be your battleground. Show us a miracle.”

Miraculously, Princess became “calm” the day after, allowing Nicole three hours of sleep.

Since then, the child started recovering each day, for which Nicole and Renly are really grateful. They owe it to God and His “angels and instruments.”

According to the parents, what they went through made their faith even stronger.

“Grabe yung kapit namin sa Diyos. Hindi namin siguro maitatawid yung mga minuto, mga araw kung hindi kami nagdadasal,” Nicole said.

“Ang hirap araw-araw. Napaka sakit talaga sobra. Ito yung closest to God that we have ever been,” she added. “Every opportunity we get, nagdadasal kami.”

Now, Princess is doing well and is continuously recovering through various kinds of therapy. Just like her parents, she is very grateful for those who offered them help.

“Thank you for the people who prayed for me and then when I was still in the hospital, I had to pray to God ‘please get me out of the hospital.’”

Towards the end of the vlog, a video of Princess singing energetically just this week was shown, proving that she is slowly going back to her healthy self.

Several celebrities including Sitti, Chariz Solomon and Giselle Sanchez have sent their well wishes to the family through the comments section of Nicole’s Instagram post. — Franchesca Viernes/LA, GMA News
