Why are Korean skincare products popular in the Philippines?

Whether it’s to achieve that poreless dewy look, or to copy the skincare regimen of their favorite “oppa,” many Filipinos have sworn by Korean skincare products.

According to dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon Dr. Maika Slatensek, there’s a reason why these products are a hit among Filipinos.

“More or less, it’s tailored for Asians. That’s why you notice Korean regimens are popular here in the Philippines,” Slatensek said during the launch of BYS Philippines’ new skincare line, Skin by BYS, on Friday.

“They work well compared to Caucasian products.”

She added that the products were tailored to our sensitive or oily skin types.

Slatensek also said that because of these factors, Korean skincare products were quite similar to Filipino ones.

Western products, said Slatensek, catered to the different factors affecting Caucasians, while Filipino and Korean products were better suited to the Asian experience.

“The weather there is too cold. They tend to focus more on hydration, bulk up, but the products here, Filipino and Korean skincare, they’re very light. They don’t build up oil in the skin. It’s easy to wash and wear,” she said.

With Skin by BYS, cosmetic company BYS Philippines has locally crafted skincare products that will be launched on the global market.
