Iwa Moto reveals struggles with mental health, being diagnosed with bipolar disorder
Iwa Moto has opened up about her struggles with mental health and being diagnosed with bipolar and post-traumatic stress disorders.
In Nelson Canlas’ “24 Oras” report, Tuesday, the “Starstruck” graduate shared that the hardest part of her life was when she battled with her own emotions.
According to Iwa, it started when her father passed away in 2009 and when she went through an annulment with former husband Mickey Ablan.
“Before, rather than facing the problem, I run away because it’s tiring, stressful and it burns my whole self out,” she said in Filipino.
She chose to not mind the symptoms so it lasted until she gave birth to Mimi, her first child with partner Pampi Lacson.
Iwa said she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder with severe panic attacks and post-traumatic disorder in 2017.
“I blacked out, I didn’t know what I was doing. Before I was diagnosed, it took me two psychiatrists and three psychologists to confirm what my problem is,” she said.
Having to deal with her mental issues for years, Iwa said that she was now doing “better” after forgiving and being at peace with herself.
She is now even open to talk about her previous scandals, including her being “wild” and shattering a windshield in the past.
“Those are the things that I wish my daughter would never see. As early as now, I already explain to my kid that sometimes, mommy is really emotional and gets really mad,” she said.
“I’m starting to explain because she might find it in Google someday,” she added in Filipino.
She also gave kudos to Pampi for helping her and staying by her side while she healed.
“He really helps me a lot to become who I am right now. I’m not saying I’m perfect. I am far from being perfect but I am better right now,” she said.
