Winnie Monsod shares 3 easy ‘iwas-kalimot’ tips
Have you been forgetting important stuff lately? Well, you’re not alone.
In a segment of GMA-7’s morning show “Unang Hirit,” Winnie Monsod shared a few “iwas-kalimot” tips for those like herself who sometimes experience so-called “senior moments.”
1. Exercise
Studies have shown that incorporating physical exercise in your daily routine can help sharpen your memory. “Exercise helps you with your memory. Empirically that’s a fact,” said Mareng Winnie.
2. Eat less inflammatory food, more dark chocolate.
A healthy diet doesn’t just do wonders for your heart—it’s good for your brain, too. “You have to eat more fruits and vegetables. Notice, walang meat,” she said.
Mareng Winnie also likes to eat a bit of dark chocolate as this can help improve memory as well. “Puwedeng once a day, twice a week, or three times a week.”
3. Train your brain.
Mareng Winnie said she also liked challenging herself with brain exercises every day.
There are mobile apps designed for this specific purpose, but you can also “train your brain” by reading, jigsaw puzzles, and quizzes.
Mareng Winnie, for example, draws challenge questions from a bowl that ask her to quickly name four animals with four legs, or name five Philippine presidents.
Winnie Monsod is a professor and columnist who hosts “Newsmakers,” a weekly show that’s part of GMA’s “New Normal: Survival Guide” series, which aims to help Filipinos cope with the pandemic.
