Woman with schizophrenia shows signs of recovery after receiving help from 'I-Witness'

A woman with schizophrenia is finally showing signs of recovery after getting featured and receiving help from "I-Witness."

On Twitter, Sunday, host Kara David shared an update on the condition of "Lola Alynn," whose story aired on the program in 2019.

The documentary, titled "Bilanggo ng Isipan," won bronze at the 2019 New York Festivals for TV & Film under the Health/Medical Information Category.

"Winning an award is definitely an honor for our team, but perhaps the greatest honor is seeing that somehow we have helped changed the lives of some of our case studies," Kara said.

Lola Alynn has been suffering from schizophrenia since the 1960s. Her family chained her up when she was 18 years old, as they had no knowledge on how to deal with her psychotic episodes.

According to the Mayo Clinic, schizophrenia is a "mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally." Some symptoms include  hallucinations, delusions, and impaired thinking that may be disabling, affecting daily functions.

Lola Alynn was 80 years old when she met the "I-Witness" team and since then, the program has been sending her monthly medical and psychiatric help.

"After two years of treatment, I am happy to tell you that Lola Alynn is now doing better," Kara said. "She is not chained anymore. She can converse with people and take walks in the field. Sana tuluy-tuloy na ang pagbuti ng kalagayan ni lola."
