In case of an Ammonia leak: Here's what to do
Ammonia is a strong type of gas, simply inhaling or ingesting it can already lead to poisoning.
Should an ammonia leak occur near your residence, make sure to go immediately to an area with fresh air.
Should you drink or ingest something with ammonia, drink water or milk ASAP.
But don't force yourself to drink water or milk if you're already vomiting, convulsing, or losing consciousness.
If your eyes or skin are affected, immediately wash it with water for not less than 25 minutes.
Symptoms of ammonia poisoning include tightness of chest, difficulty in breathing, and pain in throat, mouth or eyes.
People can also feel dizzy and experience vomiting. Exposure to high levels of ammonia can also lead to skin burn.
More than two people have already died after the ice storage facility T.P. Marcelo Ice Plant and Cold Storage in Navotas had an ammonia leak incident on Wednesday.
Because of the leak in the ice plant, a company owned by Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco's family, 76 others were also injured while numerous residents near the area were ordered to evacuate. — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
