What causes back acne or 'bacne' and what you can do about it
In an episode of Pinoy MD, dermatologist Dr. Jean Marquez listed down causes of "bacne" or back acne and what you can do about it.
Aside from skin issues, Dr. Jean is "bacne" is caused by genetic reasons.
The back area of your body has a lot of big, oil glands especially among men, which is why bacne is common.
Dr. Jean also noted how irritation can also trigger acne.
"So sometimes kahit yung pagpapawis tapos kung ['yung mga] sinusuot mo hindi absorbent yung cotton or tela, nata-trap yung sweat sa pores at nagde-develop din yan as acne or bacne," Dr. Jean explained.
Aside from bacne, you can also get "keratosis pilaris" or chicken skin on your back when you have dry skin.
"Ang nangyayari diyan, 'yung dead skin, it clogs the pores. Nata-trap yung oil sa loob hindi nakakalabas doon sa pores kung kaya nagde-develop din ng acne ," Dr. Jean said.
Dr. Jean said the food and drink — like protein shakes, sugary food, and dairy goods — we enjoy can sometimes also cause acne.
"May mga iniinom din tayo kagaya ng mga shakes, gaya ng whey protein 'yung mga nagpapalaki ng katawan sa mga nag-gigym," she said.
Dr. Jean reminded that bacne should be treated like acne on your face because the worst case scenario is that it can develop into cyst and can become a keloid.
Mild soap, body wash for oily skin type, and oil free moisturizers are some of the products you can use to lessen the acne on your back.
Dr. Jean said dermatologists can also recommend them to use antibiotic astringents including clindamycin, azithromycin, and benzoyl peroxide. — Jannielyn Ann Bigta/LA, GMA News
