After heart attack experience, Mel Tiangco touts importance of blood donors

Mel Tiangco underscored the importance of blood donations especially during the coronavirus pandemic.

On "24 Oras" Tuesday, the veteran anchor shared her experience of receiving blood when she had a heart attack.

"Iniisip ko noon habang nasa ospital ako, isip ako ng isip. Paano kaya 'yung iba na walang umaayuda kanila?" she said.

According to the Philippine Red Cross, medical conditions which typically need blood transfusion include cancer, dengue, leptospirosis, as well as childbirth complications and severe accidents.

"Ngayong pandemic since meron tayong mga quarantine restriction alam naman natin na bumababa ang ating supply," said Dr. Christie Monina Nalupta, PRC Director for National Blood Service.

Interested donors may contact the PRC headquarters or the National Blood Center, which has chapters in Lucena, Cebu, Iloilo, Lapu-Lapu, and Mandaue.

The Philippine General Hospital is also calling for blood plasma donations from qualified individuals who recovered from COVID-19—MGP, GMA News
