Earthquake survivor from Chuzon Supermarket collapse in Pampanga gets prosthetic leg
The woman who survived but lost her leg from the Chuzon Supermarket collapse after the earthquake in Porac, Pampanga, last year, now walks with a prosthetic limb.
Lourdes Martin said when her right leg was crushed by the supermarket’s collapsed beam, she thought her life was going to end.
“Noong lumindol sa Porac, Pampanga, last year, naipit ’yung kanang binti ko ng gumuhong beam ng Chuzon Supermarket. Akala ko talaga mamamatay na ako noon. Kinailangang putulin ’yung binti ko para mabuhay ako,” she narrated on the “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” Facebook page Tuesday.
After having her leg removed, Lourdes said she thought she would never be able to walk again.
“Takot na takot ako na hindi na ako makakalakad ulit,” she said.
A year later she’s finally able to walk again, thanks to Artificial Leg Philippines, Kapuso actor Alden Richards, and “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho.”
“Nang dahil sa kanila, makakalakad na ako ulit. Marami na uli akong magagawa sa buhay ko,” she said.
Lourdes has an inspiring message to those who are going through hurdles in their lives.
“Sa mga hindi inaasahang pangyayari sa ating buhay, kailangan tibayan natin ’yung ating mga loob,” she said.
“Lahat ng pagsubok, kagaya ngayong may pandemya, kailangan nating lumaban. Maski mahirapan, madapa, o sa kaso ko nga, naputulan pa ko ng paa, basta buo loob natin, makakabangon at makakatayo tayong muli.”
In October 2019, a Department of Public Works and Highways task force identified several violations that caused the collapse of Chuzon Supermarket after a 6.1-magnitude earthquake rocked Luzon in April. – Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/RC, GMA News
