What to expect from 'modern jeeps' in the new normal
Modern jeepney units are set to return on Metro Manila roads starting Monday.
To help commuters stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, GMA News' Ivan Mayrina discussed some safety guidelines during a live report on “Unang Balita."
According to Mayrina, a modern jeepney unit is only allowed to transport a maximum of 12 passengers at a time, which is 50 percent of its total capacity.
To enforce this, commuters will find "do not sit here" signs on some of the seats.
Each passenger is expected to pay with a tap card instead of cash.
Meanwhile, the driver of the unit featured on the report was seen wearing protective gear, including gloves, a mask, and a face shield.
The unit also had a plastic sheet that helped separate the driver from the passengers.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has allowed modern jeepneys to operate on the primary condition that commuters maintain physical distancing. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
