'LIGTAS-PADYAK PROJECT': 'Unang Hirit' gives away 100 sets of bike safety gear for free

GMA-7’s “Unang Hirit” has given away 100 sets of bike safety gear for free, including helmets, reflective vests and blinking lights.

According to a report by Ivan Mayrina on Wednesday, the Kapuso morning show launched “UH Ligtas-Padyak" to help bikers get to their destinations safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The safety gear was a donation by an anonymous Kapuso donor concerned about the safety of cyclists who face a perilous journey on public roads everyday.

Jericho Sabiles has to pedal for two hours from Payatas to Pasay everyday.

After seeing several accidents and flat tires on his daily bike ride, the 19-year-old aircon service man was very happy to receive some brand new safety gear.

Like Sabiles, Filipinos have turned to biking as an alternative mode of transportation in preparation for the “new normal” set by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Commuters are also bearing the brunt of limited public transportation due to the lockdown measures in the country. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
