UPLB prepares 80% ethyl alcohol for frontliners
The University of the Philippines' Los Banos Institute of Chemistry (IC-UPLB) produced ethyl alcohol to be given to the frontliners fighting against the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In UPLB Community Affairs' Facebook post on Wednesday, they wrote, "80% ethanol prepared by the UPLB Institute of Chemistry (IC-UPLB) for frontline offices."
The sanitizing agent, it explained, was made up of ethanol and other materials donated to UPLB through the IC Alumni Association's CHEMaraderie 2020 fund drive.
Just last week, UPLB asked the public for help as thousands of students find themselves stranded in their dormitories amid the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine imposed to prevent the spread of the disease.
Experts have previously advised to use at least 70% alcohol in combatting COVID-19.
As of Wednesday, the Philippines has a total number of 2,311 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 96 deaths and 50 recoveries. — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
