WHO urges people to stay active and healthy at home amid COVID-19 threat
The World Health Organization (WHO) is encouraging everyone to stay active and healthy even while at home quarantine amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) threat.
On its Instagram account, WHO posted an infographic with tips on how families and individuals can engage in physical activities at home.
What do I do to stay active?
WHO said people can "try exercise classes online, dance to music, play active video games, try skipping rope, do some muscle strength and balance training."
How long should I workout?
They recommend "all healthy adults do 30 minutes/day of physical activity, and children should be physically active for 1 hour/day."
What are the benefits of staying active?
WHO said this will be good for your body, mind and spirit, especially during stressful times.
"Doing any activity around the home is better than none at all. Be active during #COVID19 outbreak to maintain your heart health, muscle strength and flexibility. It is good for your mental health too," WHO said.
What if I'm working from home?
Meanwhile, if you're one of those people who are working at home, WHO advised to "regularly check your sitting posture while working from home."
Every once in a while, you should "break up your sitting and stand up while working, on the phone, or watching TV."
WHO said every once in a while in between work, you can "walk up and down the stairs and do some stretching exercises."
While staying active is important, eating nutritious food is just as essential for everyone's overall well-being.
In an episode of "Sumbungan ng Bayan," on Wednesday, nutritionist Deza Delica Tibayan gave tips on what people should and should not be eating amid the fight against COVID-19.
