Just because they’re not always out in the open or you're not a lactating new mom, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t learn how to take proper care of your breasts.

And whether it’s stickin’ it to breast cancer or you just wanna keep your chest looking great as you get older, us girls gotta stick together.

With the help of Dra. Diana Cua, a breast surgical oncologist who studied at Stanford University, we put together a four-point care program on how to take good care of your breasts.

1. Wear the right bra

We all know wearing the wrong bra can mess with your entire outfit. But more than the possibility of a bra messing up your OOTD, maybe you should pay more attention to how much support your breasts will need for the day — especially if you’ll be doing strenuous activities or sports.

Dr. Cua reminds: "The bigger the cup size, the greater the need for daily support."

Shopping for a sports bra? Remember, it's all about it being tight. It's about being able to move freely

2. Moisturize

Like any other part of your body, breasts are also prone to rashes and irritation, which are best to avoid, even for aesthetic reasons.

“Especially older women, when they (reach) menopause, the skin will tend to dry up and irritate the breast. A lot of women will start to complain about itchiness,” says Dra. Cua.

The solution? Moisturizers, or body oil right after taking a shower.

Cua adds that potentially contagious warts that can spread to the breast area, so see your dermatologist, please.

3. Keep the girls safe

After a breast cancer surgeon for over 20 years, Dra. Cua wants women to remember that there are a lot of safe ways to enhance the size and shape of your bust without going under the knife or getting silicone injections.

If it's just a little lift that you need for that form-fitting dress, why not invest in a good push-up bra? What's a good one you may ask? One that doesn't poke you with its underwire, one that isn't too tight, and one that isn't restrictive.

4. Feel them at least once a month

Contrary to popular belief, massaging your breasts doesn’t guarantee that they’ll get bigger. A self breast examination, on the other hand, gives you a familiar feel of their regular state that will help you detect any irregular bumps or tumors.

Because with breast cancer, “it’s all about catching it early,” Cua says.

“Once you catch it early, it will not kill you. It will save your life. And if you neglect it 100 percent, it will progress and grow and will eventually (cause death). It will be more expensive when you catch it late, and the treatment will be a lot more. When it comes to surgery if you catch it early we have surgeries that will save the breasts so the patient need not lose their breasts,” she adds. — LA, GMA News
