How a kid’s idea changed the lives of an Aeta Community in Pampanga #KidsGetItDone

Water is a basic necessity of life. Therefore, access to safe and readily available water is important for the health of families and communities.

However, for the Aetas of Sitio Pidpid, Brgy. Sapang Uwak, Porac, Pampanga, this is not the case. Their nearest water access is two hours away from home. So for them, getting water is very difficult and laborious. Water is from a spring where they take a bath, do laundry, and where animals such as carabaos wander. Unfortunately, it is also the same source of drinking water for them. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), contaminated water can transmit diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, and polio.

With this in mind, Tang Philippines, together with the students of Cuayan Elementary School in the same region, aimed to help make clean water accessible for the community. Last October 9, a historic step in making clean safe drinking water more accessible to the residents of Sitio Pidpid was made possible through the installation of a sustainable water filtration system under Tang Philippines’ initiative, Kids Get It Done: Kids for Water.

For this purpose, Tang Philippines partnered with the students of Cuayan Elementary School, who showed their creativity by thinking of water system solutions. Sketches for solutions, inspired by the water situation of the Aetas in the neighboring community, were submitted.

One idea stood out and was brought to life. Using this idea, the community can now collect water from the rain as their source of water. They can also use a built-in water filter to get clean safe drinking water instantly.

The community expressed their gratitude to Tang Philippines as there will be no more tiring walks to an unsafe source of water. What they’ll have instead, is clean safe drinking water a few steps away from their homes.

Tang Philippines believes that kids can make a positive difference when we empower them. Get inspired by what kids can do and watch this story here:
