BEAUTY WITH A PURPOSE

Michelle Dee treats children with autism to 'hippotherapy'

Showing true "beauty with a purpose," Miss World Philippines 2019 Michelle Dee is making good on her pledge to help patients with autism.

In an activity with the Autism Society Philippines on Wednesday, the beauty queen got on a horse and tried an alternative therapy called "hippotherapy."

Sharing her experience at the Marikina Equestrian Center on Instagram, Michelle said: "Nothing fills my heart more than seeing these kids enjoying new experiences and learning new things about themselves."

"The horses really proved to be a great alternative therapy and it truly resonated with the kids today," she added.

In less than two months, Michelle will be representing the country in the global Miss World pageant scheduled December 14 in London.

The beauty queen left her supporters a special reminder after spending time with the kids: "Change will not happen overnight, but I'm happy to see progress everyday."

Merriam-Webster defines hippotherapy as physical therapy in which a patient (as one affected with cerebral palsy or multiple sclerosis) sits or lies on the back of a horse for the therapeutic effect of the horse's movement. —Margaret Claire Layug/JST, GMA News
