Encouraged by Kyline's brave revelation, Ayra Mariano opens up about breakouts due to PCOS

After Kyline Alcantara's revelation on her struggles with acne, it encouraged fellow Kapuso actress Ayra Mariano to do the same and share her own experience.

On Instagram, Ayra shared photos from two years ago showing her face covered with acne.

"Up until now I still have some seasonal acne, but [they're] not really as dramatic as these breakout in my photos," Ayra wrote.

She admitted it was a difficult time for her, stressing out every time people asked her about her face.

"I got to a point that it's so hard for me to step outside and face people in daylight or when at work when the light hits my face, I get so anxious and shy especially when facing my co-actors," she wrote. "I wear face masks, caps and shades a lot of times to hide my blemishes."

Starting this off with gratefulness to the Lord for sustaining me and giving me the courage to share one of the battles I literally faced for almost 2 years. Decided to share this because earlier I saw @itskylinealcantara ‘s post and I got encouraged to share my story as well. In the next photos as you swipe you’ll read my story and there are some snapshots from the pages of my journal that speaks of my desperate prayers to the Lord to heal me. Please also remember that you are not alone in this battle. God is with us and for a reason God has let us face this kind of situation to encourage and help you, that we also know what you’re going through. During her portrayal as an antagonist in the GMA-7 series "Inday Will Always Love You," she couldn't hide her acne on screen which caused negative comments from the viewers.

Ayra said she was judged and called "reyna ng tigyawat."

"It affected me so much that I got depressed about those negative comments," she said.

The Kapuso actress later learned her acne breakouts were caused by PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome).

"It's a hormonal disorder resulting infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods," Ayra wrote.

Moving forward, she turned to a healthier lifestyle as well as by having faith.

"Those pimple don't define me. They shouldn't define you either. You are more than your flaws and remember beauty is not seen outside; the Lord looks on the heart," Ayra said. — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/LA, GMA News
