Kelley Day breaks into tears as she opens up about having alopecia on Miss World PHL intro video

Kelley Day broke into tears in her introduction video for Miss World Philippines as she opened up about suffering from alopecia, a medical condition that causes hair loss.

In the video, she said her advocacy is to "raise consciousness for auto-immune diseases such as psoriasis and alopecia."

She continued and revealed that she has been suffering from alopecia. In fact, she has a bald spot at the back of her head.

"This is the first time that I'm opening up about my alopecia situation where I have a bald spot at the back of my head. It took me almost a year ever since I found it in October 2018 to actually deal with it and only a couple of weeks ago have I started treating it properly," she said as she cried.

The Kapuso actor said she only started dealing with it because of fear and embarrassment. She is a public figure, after all.

"I had so much fear and embarrassment about it especially in my line of work where I always get my hair styled people take photos of me all the time," she said.

As someone with alopecia, Kelley said she wants to "let people know that it's okay. I want people to know how to deal with it properly."

Kelley admitted that if she didn't join Miss World Philippines, she might have not opened up about it. But now she's ready to inspire other people with her story.

"With my story I want everyone to feel encouraged about who they are. I want people to see that no one's perfect," she said. "I think without Miss World Philippines I wouldn't have opened up about this. So I want to make the most of this platform. So please help me make a change."

A few weeks ago, Miss World listed Kelley as one of the Kapuso stars who are official candidates of Miss World Philippines 2019.
