What are frozen shoulders exactly? Doctor explains

Oncologist Dr Isaac David Ampil II explained that frozen shoulders are actually shoulder joints that have become stiff.

According to Ampil, it's usually caused by the thickening of the joint's capsule, and this thickening is actually caused by numerous things, the doctor said.

"Most common niyan ay immobilization. Baka nagkaroon siya ng fracture o matagal na hindi ginamit 'yung shoulder joint. Because of that nanigas 'yung capsule ng shoulder joint," Ampil said in a Pinoy MD episode on Saturday.

This can even lead to pain if the patient tries to move the shoulder around.

Ampil highly urged the patient to visit rehab in case there are a range of motions and exercises that can be done to loosen the shoulder joint.

If it still does not work, the patient may be up for surgery. — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
