A doctor explains post-surgery weight gain
Many speculate that after getting a surgery in the stomach, the patient is bound to gain weight in the days after the operation.
However, oncologist Dr Isaac David Ampil II said this was completely false. Patients don't gain weight because of the operation.
The weight gain is often a result of a patient recuperating from the operation.
"Kapag na-operahan kasi, during the recuperation period, ang katawan mo ay naghahanap ng sustansya so nagi-increase ang appetite once nagre-recuperate na ang pasyente. So ang tendency ng pasyente talaga ay kumakain ng mas marami kaysa dati," he said in a Pinoy MD episode on Saturday.
"Ngayon ang problema is if nahilom na siya, pero marami pa rin siyang kinakain at nagli-limit siya ng physical activity," he added.
The weight gain is a result of an imbalance between the patient's food intake and physical activity. — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
