Now that summer has kicked off, we asked Andrea Torres to share some secrets and tips on how staying fit.

Listen to your body

According to Andrea, you have to listen to your body so you'll know what it needs, and more importantly, what works for it. "Ang mabibigay kong tip: kilalanin mo talaga [katawan mo]. You really have to listen to your body. Kailangan alamin mo ano 'yong kailangan niya ano 'yong nagwowork sa kanya," she said.

Don't eliminate carbs. Instead, balance your meal

"I still eat carbs, kailangan 'yon eh," Andrea begins, "especially pag nagwo-workout ka, dun mo nakukuha yung energy mo, para hindi rin sobrang tuyot. Sabi nga nila 'wag ka mag-eliminate ng anything, i-balance mo lang."

Choose the healthier alternatives

Andrea is on-trend with the rest of the world in choosing the healthier alternatives. The Kapuso actor said her diet consists of the usual healthy options like fish, chicken, fruits and vegetables, taking extra caution on how much salt there is in her food.

"Mahilig ako sa fish, mahilig din naman ako sa chicken, pork, beef. Basta I make sure lang na yung pagkaluto niya healthy, tinatry ko maghanap ng alternatives ngayon kasi ang dami na eh,  like kunware 'yong mga seasoning na mataas ang salt meron na tayong makikitang mas mababa, siyempre may lasa pa rin yung food, more vegatables, more fruits ganyan."

Lift weights to tone your muscles

Andrea encourages those who want to look and feel fit to lift weights. It tones the muscles and helps ditch loose skin.

"For me ang weightlifting nakaka-tone talaga kailangan mo siya para maganda rin 'yong pagkapayat mo. Wala kang loose skin,"she shared.

Aside from the physical rewards of lifting weights, she said it's also good for one's endurance and strength.

"Maganda rin siyempre maging strong ka, bukod sa endurance yung maging strong ka," she said.

In case you haven't heard yet, Andrea is into powerlifting, capable of lifting weights of up to 180 lbs. But she injured her spine, took a break, and now has a current heaviest lift at 135 lbs, even with a spine that needs more care.

"Siyempre ngayon since may inaalagaan na ako, forever ko na kasi siyang alaga according to the doctor so mas tame na tsaka lagi ng may bantay, may coach na ako, and 'yon dati kasi pinu-push ko 'yong sarili ko, puyat ako naggy-gym ako," she said.
