Gabbi Garcia on self-love: 'Huwag kayo magpa-alipin sa definition of sexy on social media'

On social media, you'll often see Gabbi Garcia advocating self-love. But just like most 20-somethings she's had her fair share of struggles before achieving acceptance.

At the recent Keds' Ladies for Ladies Talk, where she was one of the power women speakers, the Kapuso Millennial It Girl said she gets bashed for her morena skin and flat chest.

But up yours haters! Gabbie sees them as two of her best assets.

"Accept everything about yourself, wag kayo magpa-alipin sa definition of sexy on social media. You are sexy in your own way, " Gabbi said.

"You can be sexy on your personality, the way you think, your talents 'di ba? And just accept all your flaws. Once you accept everything, it's not a flaw anymore... flaunt those stretchmarks, flaunt your flat-chested self," she said.

Gabbi narrated how she struggled a few years back due to lack of self-love,

"A few years ago I encountered a personal problem that really crushed me and parang it made me invite all the negative thoughts with me being myself parang I felt like something was wrong with me because of that problem and it all transcend into lack self-love. I lack self-worth,"

Gabbi channeled the negative energy and turned it into something good: It led her to produce her own single, "All I Need."

"That's the reason for me, producing my own single. 'Yon 'yong nag-push sa 'kin. That was my outlet. I wanted to use me being in the industry to be a voice sa lahat ng nag-follow sa 'kin, of course."

She said having a strong support system is also important; For Gabbi that would be her family, especially her mother and sister, who have shaped her to be the woman that she is now.

"A good foundation is important it starts in your home you have to remember you can trust your mom or your sister or your sibling or even your dad. For me, I'm just really lucky enough that it started in my house, my mom and my sister inspired me and shaped me to be who I am today."
