Joyce Pring opens up about depression and anxiety, says there are people willing to help

Kapuso host Joyce Pring on Tuesday opened up about suffering depression and anxiety in the past, and said she experienced several anxiety attacks last year.

"I've been very vocal about suffering through depression and anxiety, and especially last year, I actually suffered through maybe six months of just sporadic bouts of anxiety. And it was really difficult kasi yung anxiety ko nati-trigger siya with things that I love doing," she shared in an episode of Ask Away.

"So I would get anxiety attacks while I was on the plane, I would get anxiety attacks while I was reading, or swimming, yung mga bagay na ginagawa ko talaga. Nagugulat na lang ako bigla akong nagkaron ng anxiety attack," she added.

Getting through those difficult episodes humbled Joyce and helped her grow in character, the 25-year-old said.

They made her realize that there are things that are really beyond her control, despite circumstances telling her she should be happy.

"When you suffer through anxiety and depression and you can't really control anything, parang every circumstance around you is supposed to tell you you're having a good life, but for some reason your mental health is not matching your circumstances," she said.

"So it really humbled me in the sense na naintindihan ko that there are really some people who might have amazing, incredible lives but they suffer through these difficult things, kasi may mga bagay talaga na di tayo na di macocontrol," she added.

Joyce also reminded people with mental health issues that there are people around you who care, and are always willing to help and listen.

"Hindi mo maiiwasan yung mga storms sa buhay. Ang kailangan mo lang talaga ay mga makakasama," she said. — Jessica Bartolome/BM, GMA News
