Binibining Pilipinas queens weigh in on cosmetic surgery in pageants

Binibining Pilipinas queens are speaking up about cosmetic enhancements in pageants amid criticism that Miss Universe 2018 second runner-up Sthefany Gutiérrez of Venezuela is "retokada."

Eva Patalinjug and Michele Gumabao, who represented the Philippines in the Miss Grand International and Miss Globe stage respectively, told GMA News' Cata Tibayan that they see nothing wrong with candidates going under the knife.

"I'm kind of proud of Miss Venezuela for being open and honest about it," Eva said.

Meanwhile, Michele likened cosmetic surgery to wearing luxury items. "Stuff like these enhancements or even [something] as simple as wearing nice clothes, [if it] can help you... then who are we to judge?"

Miss Intercontinental Philippines 2018 Karen Gallman expressed a similar sentiment, saying it's the candidate's decision to make. "If [cosmetic enhancements] make them feel confident, then it's up to them."

Sthefany's before and after surgery photos went viral on social media weeks after the Miss Universe pageant, shocking some fans. The images were uploaded by the doctor who performed the surgery. Sthefany left a comment on the doctor's post, thanking him for his work and professionalism. — AT, GMA News
