Miss International 2013 Bea Santiago diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, now waiting for kidney transplant
Miss International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago informed the public through an Instagram post that she has chronic kidney disease.
According to Katrina Son's report on Balitanghali, Bea first thought it was a simple migraine, but after her check up, she found out it was much worse.
In an interview with her last August, Bea revealed she was "confined here for almost four days. Kaya nila ako napauwi last week kasi okay ka na o normal. The next few days na nag-CBC ako ulit. Nag-paset ako ng schedule with Dr. Cabral for siyempre, 'yong follow up, you know, and then nabigla siya 'di na bumaba, umakyat ulit 'yong creatinine number ko."
High levels of creatinine, a waste product produced by muscle tissues, processed by the kidneys, and is expelled through the urine, could harm the kidneys.
Bea, a health buff, admitted that she would drink pre-workout drinks to maintain her figure.
"I just increased the intensity of my workout and I took a little bit of help from, you know, mga powders," she said.
When she looked up the pre-workout, it appeared to contain a high number of creatinine. She also admits to having a history of bad kidneys.
Bea was in denial so she went to Tokyo, Japan for a second opinion.
Now she is need for a life-saving kidney transplant and a potential donor. She is living through the dialysis machine and with the help of her doctors and nurses in the dialysis center in Toronto, Canada.
Despite the current battle she is facing, Bea remains positive and firmly believes that she will get better with the help of God and the love of her family and friends. — Kaella Malig/ LA, GMA News
