A Taglish version of the Bible, anyone?

In an effort to bring the Word of God closer to millennials, the Philippine Bible Society is releasing a…Taglish version of the bible.

It’s called “New Testament: Pinoy Version” — or Pinoy NT, if you want to sound hip.
The verses and lines found inside Pinoy NT are a lot youthful and light:

“Gusto nyo maging slaves ulit?”

“Sa mga members ng church sa Galatia, si Paul to.”

In a Monday report on State of the Nation, the Philippine Bible Society cited how much language has changed.

“So kinakailangan na ang Bibilya, naruruon sa lengwaheng ganun na naiintindihan sa pinaka simpleng paraan. Gusto natin ang biblya nakakarating sa ating mga kababayan,” said Dr. Nora Lucero, Gen. Secretary of Philippine Bible Society.

The move has been met with different reactions. Says associate general secretary Perry Cartera, there are those who think the translation is a bit superficial, while others think it’s a sell-out but the CBCP thinks it’s a good move. “Maganda ang intention ng mga translator,” Fr. Jerome Secillano said. — LA, GMA News
