An Italian skin expert says why 10-step Korean skincare routine might not work for you
Skincare is progressively becoming important to both men and women, and people have been religiously trying different kinds of routine to achieve a clear and healthy skin.
One of the most popular practices these days are those 10-step Korean skincare routines, which a lot believe is the most thorough and as such, most effective.
But here’s the thing: there is never a one-size fits-all skin care routine. What works for Koreans (or the Chinese, or the Japanese for that matter) might not necessarily work for you.
Italian skin expert Martina Bindi, founder of all-organic skincare brand bSoul, has been working in skin research for 30 years, and she begins by pointing out the differing climates of Korea and Philippines.
“They don’t have sun in Korea, they have colder weather. Here, you have to defend yourself from the sun [because you get a lot of it]. And the sun, it’s not only dangerous because of aging. It does terribly things to your skin,” Martina says at the recent launch of bSoul at Conrad Manila on Thursday.
“Korean skin is thin, bright, fair, and even — because they have no sun at all. But here, sunscreen alone isn’t enough. You cannot treat your skin the same as Koreans because you are not the same. The same in Italy – we cannot use the same treatments as Koreans,” Martina continues.
What’s important for everybody to remember, Martina says, is to understand how our skin’s physiology works.
Skin, she reminds, is the largest organ of the body, with the purpose of protecting and defending the body from bacteria and other external assailants. With that understanding, you can begin to care for your skin, the way it needs to be cared for. — LA, GMA News
